A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle
Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):
ABC and The Amazon Post released the results of a new poll that reported among Millennials, those that identify with no religion outnumber religious Protestants 35 percent to 22 percent. HotAir.com reports that 15 years ago 34 percent of 18-29 year olds were Protestant and just 19 percent identified as having no religion.
As the HotAir.com article highlighted, the Millennial generation is more racially and ethnically diverse than previous generations so obviously many Millennials may be religious, just not Christian, they may be Hindi, Buddhist, etc.
While racial and ethical diversity does play a part in the decline of Christianity among Millennials, another factor involved not reported in the poll is the failure of the church to reach Millennials.
Millennials are smart. They’ve grown up in a world of fake and social media so they can see right through the phoniness of some of the pastors that try desperately to look “cool.”
Millennials, I believe are tired of the fake that the pop culture presents them, and they’re looking for something real, and there is nothing more real and life changing than the gospel.
And that’s what the church needs to go back to. Go back to being hard core Bible believing churches and not present a PC version of Christianity.
Present the truth, and you’ll reach some Millennials.
