A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle
Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):
Friday, I caught some of the Reverend Billy Graham’s funeral on Fox and only Fox. CNN, MSNBC did not air it, not that I’m surprised by that, I’d be surprised if they did air it, but his funeral once again had the gospel front and center, and story after story that speakers told about him and his life once again reaffirmed how great and rare of a man he was.
His passing has made me think a lot about America, my generation, and where we are heading as a society, and during this past weekend, one thought kept popping in my head, and that is that we need a millennial Billy Graham.
We need someone with the moral character and conviction of him to stand out in crowd in this social media driven, fame, money, and self-pleasure seeking obsessed culture and be different. To be a light. To be an example. Be a warrior for the gospel. A leader on the national stage that can influence, encourage others, and turn the pop culture upside down by preaching the word.
In 2018, we live in an age where even many pastors have egos and do not share the humble nature of Rev. Graham. He didn’t care about fashion or being an influencer on Instagram. He had a simple message which was that it’s all about Christ.
I hope. I pray, that God will call many millennial leaders to pick up where Rev. Graham left off and reach my generation and those to come with the gospel.
America needs Christian leadership now more than ever and I hope the passing of this great Christian leader will renew in all of us commitment to live out the gospel.
