It's Time To Keep America's Kids Safe Again After Parkland 2/16/18 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

It’s time for Congress and President Trump to act. The school shootings must stop.

Gun control isn’t the answer, just look at countries that have it, and the gun violence that continues, but there are things that can be done to keep our kids safer.

Number one, we need to stop having schools as gun free zones. If you notice, mass shootings nine out of ten times happen in gun free zones.

Our schools should at least be as secure as airports. When you go to an airport you gotta go through security, and no one has a problem with that because it helps keep us safe, so why can’t we have metal detectors and security at school entrances?

I don’t have kids, but I’m sure most parents would be ok with this if it meant keeping their kid safe.

Also, schools need to hire security staffs that carry. Obviously in these situations, having security won’t be able to save every kid, but a lot less would die if we had marshals at school like we do on planes.

And yes, a security staff would be expensive to put into every school, so Congress could pass a new penny tax to help cover the cost, or if you don’t want to do it at the federal level, make it a state or local thing. We’re spending billions and trillions of dollars now, so what’s another trillion more, especially if the cost is covered via a tax?

Seriously, how many people would be against a penny tax to keep kids safe? I doubt there are too many parents that would be against that.

Using common sense, there are productive steps that can take place to help stop other Parklands from happening. Increased security won’t stop every shooting, but it would help decrease a lot of them from happening.
