On Thursday, America lost a giant in the conservative movement. Roger Ailes, the founder and former Fox News head is probably second only to Rush Limbaugh in regards to those that have had influence in the conservative movement over the past few decades. Mr. Ailes helped Nixon, George H.W. Bush, become President. Worked with Ronald Reagan, executive produced The Rush Limbaugh TV show and in 1996 was hired by NewsCorp’s Rupert Murdoch to start the Fox News Channel. Over the past 20 years, FNC provided conservatives a place to hear their point of view, and in the process created the most important news organization in cable TV, but the influence of Fox goes well beyond that. Fox News is one of the most important media outlets in America. Fox would’ve never become what it has without him. He’s a fighter for Republican conservatism, and I’m afraid that there aren’t too many in the media left that are willing to fight politically like Ailes was willing to do. Like all of us, he wasn’t a perfect man, but being a conservative and a guy that loves the media business, I’ve admired and followed Ailes for years. Roger Ailes was a television genius. The likes of which, we may never see again. He changed television news forever with the creation of Fox. In honor of his passing, today I leave you with a moment of silence. I’m Chad Whittle on A Whittle Bit of Commentary (Audible Silence).
