The #hashtag is dead. Long live the hashtag. The UK Daily Mail reports that a new Marketing Land study of Super Bowl commercials revealed that just only 30% of ads during the game contained a hashtag, which is a 15% decrease. URL’s were shown 41% and Twitter handles received 5 mentions and Facebook only 4. The reason hashtags have decreased is because companies are finally realizing that they should be driving traffic to their own websites instead of telling people to go to their Facebook page which only helps to make Mark Zuckerburg money as opposed to themselves. All this social media, hashtags, it’s all trends. It’s not gonna stand the test of time. New technology will arise that will eventually replace hashtags and younger generations will use other platforms. One day even Snapchat will be viewed as lame by teenagers. It’s all generational.
