Teenagers Are Skipping Hanging Out with Friends to "Live Chill" Online 2/27/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

I remember being a teenager and chatting with friends on MSN Messenger and MySpace, but that’s as far as it would go. We wouldn’t sit there all night, we’d try to meet up and hang. Well WSJ.com reports that today’s tech savvy teens are skipping hanging out at the Dairy Queen all night or the Wal-Mart parking lot, yes, that’s what we did as teens, and are staying home and just using video apps to chat as a group. They’re calling it “live chilling” and for this age group that probably were born with an iPhone in their hand, this isn’t out of the ordinary to be sitting in front of a smartphone all day chatting with videos on a live stream. The problem here though is that they’re spending so much time on an app and not spending as much time in real life with their friends, and I’m afraid they’re missing out on making a lot of great memories together with friends and developing their social skills. I’m glad that when I was a teen, we got together, I’d hate to look back and all my memories were of me sitting in front of a computer screen live chillin’. I’m Chad Whittle on A Whittle Bit of Commentary.
