Spotify Releases List of the Most Listened to Musicians in 2017 and It's Not Taylor Swift 12/6/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

It’s that time of the year! Time for end of the year lists! Let’s face it, we all love these end of the year lists, even though none of us will remember the results of these by January, it’s still fun to look back and see what happened this year.

Spotify has released data on the most streamed musicians of 2017, and since Spotify is huge, we probably can assume the results are similar to other apps including Apple music.

When I saw this, I assumed that Taylor Swift would be the most streamed artist of the year, but it’s actually her friend Ed Sheeran. I don’t like him, but I guess a lot of teen girls enjoy his music.

I’ve had this debate with me teen cousin about him not being any good, but I can’t convenience her otherwise. Must be the red hair and British accent, because I don’t understand the appeal of this dude. He’s also the most streamed male artist, has the most streamed album and the most streamed song for 2017. So, yeah he’s not hurting in the money department.

Rihanna landed the number one spot for most streamed female of the year, but that’s probably because Taylor Swift released her album later in the year.

If your favorite musician didn’t make the cut, there’s still time to make them number one for 2017! Just set their album to repeat about 75 million times on Spotify and that should do the trick!
