A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle
Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):
I had to do something this weekend that I really don’t enjoy and that is shopping. Especially at Christmas time. Friday I went to Walmart and Sunday I went of Office Depot, and while walking around Walmart, I pulled up Amazon on my iPhone and it hit me about just how much Amazon is hurting traditional retailers.
Here I am in Walmart and I’m browsing their competitor on my phone, mostly because Walmart never has in stock what I need, but also because it’s just cheaper and easier on Amazon. Two day free Prime shipping, let’s be honest, that’s hard to beat or compete with if you’re Walmart.
I know I’m not the first person to shop online while in a store, but it hit me that wow, the web is gonna put these places out of business, or at least a big dent in them.
I’m sure if in the long run we’ll be better off having shopping at our finger tips. Obviously, Walmart isn’t, but do we really want all of our lives, everything we do or need to be just a click away? Yes, it’s more convenient, but I don’t want to be that dependent on the web because I believe it does us all good, to live in the real world some.
I’m all for tech advancement, but I don’t want to just sit on a computer or phone all day, I believe it would do us all good to go out and gain some fresh air, some sunshine, but we all are becoming more reliant on technology every day, and I just see social and culture problems coming from that, even for shopping.
