A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle
The NFL continues to take a hit as a new survey of 1,211 participants from Remington Research Group shows that America’s pastime has surpassed the National Football Liberals to be America’s favorite sport right now.
Unbelievable. I thought nothing could damage the NFL, but these continued protests and the drama surrounding is causing fans to call a foul on the play. And when I say play, I mean the playing of the national anthem.
The results of the survey showed that “60 percent of those interviewed viewed the MLB as favorable, with only 11 percent who viewed it as unfavorable. Of those who participated, 30 percent said that baseball was their top professional sport, with only 25 percent saying that football was theirs. The NBA, NHL and then MLS followed next in the list of top sports.”
“Republicans and people who identified themselves as non-partisan preferred baseball over the NFL 30 percent to 21 percent. Democrats, on the other hand, preferred football over the MLB 33 percent to 29 percent.”
I would add that the exciting baseball playoffs has something to do with this too. The NFL isn’t too exciting this year.
That being said, this poll shows that once again, we are a divided nation on everything. There isn’t an escape from politics now in our society. A few weeks ago I thought fans would come back after the protests went away, but the further the NFL allows this to go on, the more damage it’s gonna cause and I believe that the NFL’s reputation is damaged forever now with a lot of fans, and they might not ever come back. The NFL’s lost is baseball’s gain.
