"Higher" Learning: Michigan University Offering New Marijuana Business Studies Degree 10/11/17 - A Whittle Bit of Commentary

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Below is a rush transcript (may contain errors):

Well they don’t call it “higher” learning for nothing. USA Today reports that students at a Michigan university can earn a medicinal plant chemistry degree which is geared toward the growing business of marijuana that is on pace to explode in Michigan next year. Some of the classes offered in the degree include chemistry, biology, botany, marketing and finance. The article doesn’t say if Walter White is teaching any of the classes, but right now it’s all about teaching the students about medical marijuana because marijuana isn’t fully legal in the state yet. Other universities including Harvard offer classes on marijuana policy, but this is probably the first degree program in it, and I’m sure other universities will offer degrees in it in the years to come.

With universities now offering degrees in marijuana, it’s just a matter of time now until it’s legal across the nation, with many drug abuse problems to follow thereafter. Regardless of how Hollywood portrays it, it’s not a safe alternative to cigarettes and it’s not completely harmless to use. It has and will cause problems for people, leading some to even harder drugs and will cause more problems for our society.
