Dumbing Down of America: Study Says Popular Hit Songs Are at a 3rd Grade Reading Level - A Whittle Bit of Commentary 5/20/15

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Transcript (may appear different than audio recording):

If you have felt recently that popular music is getting dumber lyrically and maybe musically as well, you might not be wrong. A new study released that reviewed popular Billboard hits from the past decade has shown a decrease in reading level. Most hits now are at a 3rd grade reading level. The researchers analyzed 225 songs from pop, country, rock and hip hop. So if you are telling your kids that the music was a lot better when you were younger, or if you are young like me wishing for the 90s when pop tunes had at least verses and not just someone saying the same words over and over, this should serve as a reminder to never question your judgment, because you’re probably right that today’s popular hits aren’t as good as they used to be. I’m Chad Whittle on A Whittle Bit of Commentary.
