What the Rest of the GOP Can Learn from Rand Paul & His Millennial Outreach - A Whittle Bit of Commentary 3/16/15

A Whittle Bit of Commentary with Chad Whittle

Transcript (may appear different than audio recording):

There are some issues that I disagree with Senator Rand Paul on, I mean who agrees 100% with every possible GOP candidate that may be running for President? That being said, there is one thing that he’s getting right and that is his mission to reach out to younger Americans. Senator Paul opened a SnapChat account a couple of years ago to try and reach out to future and current Millennial voters, and this past weekend he spoke at South by SouthWest in Austin, which is a huge tech conference that young, hip Millennials dig. His reaching out to my generation is the right way to do it. If Republicans wanna reach my generation, they’ve gotta come hang where we hang, and find out our interests and our concerns for the future. Just running some ads on Facebook or opening a Twitter account isn’t enough. They need to come speak, and connect in person. Senator Paul understands the value and power of social media and pop culture. Let’s hope the rest of the GOP realizes this soon, so they don’t become yesterday’s news in 2016, or to relate it to my generation, become the MySpace of politics. I’m Chad Whittle on A Whittle Bit of Commentary.

Note: South by Southwest is referred to as a tech conference in the audio version of the commentary. South by Southwest is also a music festival.
